Hello everyone, I’m facing an unusual problem with my CPU upgrade. My setup includes a 1080TI Founders Edition GPU, 2x8GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RAM, 2x8GB DDR4 TridentZ G.Skill RAM, a Corsair CX650M power supply, and a Gigabyte z170x-Gaming 7 motherboard. I’m based in Canada, BC. Over the past four months, I’ve tried three different CPUs, but none have worked with my motherboard. Initially, I ordered an i9 9900K from Newegg, but the order was canceled within a week because it was out of stock. Later, I got an i7 7600K from Newegg, which arrived successfully. However, the packaging indicated it had been used or opened, and when installed, the motherboard lights and fans would flash and then shut off. Switching to my current i5 7600K fixed the issue completely. The refund process was slow, taking about two months to receive my money back since the seller couldn’t process an RMA. My third CPU was an i9 9900KF from Amazon, but I received a model without the internal graphics because it was a good deal. It came in perfect condition, but I still faced the same fan and light problem when using it. I’m wondering if I’ve accidentally received two faulty CPUs from different sellers on separate sites, especially since my current i5 model is functioning perfectly. Would it be wise to try returning the faulty CPUs through Amazon.ca and see if that resolves things? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Z170 matches the 6th or 7th generation with a BIOS update. Z270 fits the 6th or 7th generation Z370, which is also 8th or 9th generation with a BIOS update. Z390 corresponds to the 8th or 9th generation (required for 9900KF). For sales or returns, grab a cheap B660 and a 12400KF. If your RAM is bad, go with B550 and a 5800x3d (though it costs more).
Update the BIOS using the compatible CPU model. As mentioned earlier, this device is compatible only with 6th and 7th generation processors.

I confirmed my BIOS was current, but I wasn’t aware it supported only the Z170 chipset instead of the LGA 1151 socket. Appreciate your assistance and prompt response!
