What are the best multiplayer racing games
Hey everyone, I've been searching for racing games lately—any kind of vehicle or craft that works well in online multiplayer. I own Dirt 3 and really enjoyed its fun modes like Cat N Mouse, Outbreak, and Capture the Flag. Now that most people aren’t playing it anymore, I’m trying to find something better. I’ve heard The Crew 2 is suggested, but some think it’s not worth the time. Wreckfest is another option. What are your thoughts on these games? Any recommendations for real or fictional racing titles?
Project Cars 2 has a great appearance. Have you explored the multiplayer feature? I'm searching for a game similar to Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005), but nothing matches the enjoyment and excitement of Dirt 3.
I'd recommend Trackmania 2 Stadium - at $3 (through the Steam Sale) It's quite the deal. It has both a singleplayer time-trial-ish mode (Where you can compete through leaderboards on a set of "official" maps) as well as a multiplayer. As of writing this post, the multiplayer has ~1100 players online - so you wouldn't run into your Dirt 3's multiplayer problem (I feel 'ya there). It's not realistic; however, it's a great game. I've spent 1330 hours in-game. There's the ability to make maps easily - and I mean "make" - on ManiaExchange there are ~52,000 user-made maps. There are also popular mods - such as an RPG mod That adds the ability for many more "blocks" to make maps with. Here's a speedrun of the TM2 Campaign and here's an example of an RPG Mod Map (Eleum Londor) . Edit: Jesus, this post is ranty, but eh.
Multiplayer is all I play. If you can get your hands on VR it runs amazingly well and the multiplayer is great fun. The base game on sale is a great deal right now and it has tons of cars and tracks. I've only played this a couple times but it was also really fun. Even local multiplayer on a single keyboard is awesome. It's not a real "racing" game though and is super arcadey
Wreckfest offers a lot of excitement. I enjoyed Flatout 2 a lot, and this seems like a true successor. The car handling, racing action, and destruction all feel perfect. I got it when it was first in alpha, then put it away for a while. Recently I reinstalled it after hearing it was about to end early access—what a change! I still have some unlisted gameplay moments and a replay I shared with friends to highlight the intense races. The track mix includes dirt and tarmac sections, a few tricky surfaces, and a full replay on a completely closed tarmac circuit. The crashes look even more dramatic without grass or dirt to absorb them. I’m proud of my victory at the end. I also appreciate the Forza series for its fun racing experiences, especially the events in Horizon, and I’m excited that Forza Horizon 4 will launch later this year in Britain.
Forza Horizon offers a reliable choice. Horizon 3 faced some issues at launch but performs well now on mid-range hardware, and Horizon 4 is expected to follow suit. I own The Crew 2, Horizon 3, and plan to try Horizon 4. While I enjoyed The Crew 2, I wouldn't suggest purchasing it right now since it feels somewhat lacking. Additionally, PvP won't be available until December.
