I believe this confirms my initial statement. While I don’t prefer the Debian branch, I’d rather stick with straight Ubuntu. Back when I used Pop_OS, it felt just as reliable as standard Ubuntu. The experience you shared is mine with Manjaro, yet it remains a top recommendation for new Linux users since most people encounter no issues.
Coming from a OnePlus 6T user, postmarketOS stands out as the top choice. Mobian (Mobile Debian) often causes problems during updates, so I had to switch to postmarketOS. The Plasma Mobile interface performs well, despite some hardware limitations. Waydroid is useful for Android apps, but overall it felt impressive. Devices lacking drivers like the accelerometer and camera on the OnePlus 6T are problematic, especially for ARM64 systems. Trying stock Debian caused too many unrecognized hardware issues. Linux Mint Debian Edition was more stable, making it a better option for newcomers.
Those that automatically handle things as you wish, without changes, are Debian, Arch and Gentoo.
For gaming purposes, Nobara stands out as excellent. I usually recommend options built on Debian since most tutorials are tailored for that distribution, making support more accessible. Right now I’m sticking with standard Debian alongside KDE Plasma—stable, reliable, and free of drama.
It's similar to asking for your favorite ice cream—people give varied responses based on personal preference. You'll find options ranging from all available flavors. It's quite individual. If you're seeking a straightforward and beginner-friendly distribution, Ubuntu is a solid choice. I personally stick with Debian since version 2, even though it's quite old. Debian was the foundation for Ubuntu, but I think it can be more challenging for newcomers to Linux due to its streamlined graphical interface. That's preferable compared to Debian, which I'd say is less user-friendly for beginners. However, since I mostly use the console, the GUI isn't a major concern for me.
