components:
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P (8+2 power phase and heatsynced VRM's)
EVGA 500w 80+ silver
FX 6300
Hyper 212 EVO
current overclock: 4.5ghz (200mhz FSB, 22.5x multi) at 1.4185v, although cpu-z is reading 1.428v with LLC set to med. The pc is turned on for about 10-12 hours a day.
Everything remains stable after 25 minutes of prime95, with temperatures reaching 53-54c on the hottest core. I have slightly more room for heat, but I’m unsure about voltage limits. I’ve reviewed as much information as possible, and most sources suggest 1.45-1.5v is the safe upper bound for these processors. Some users warn that exceeding 1.4v can significantly shorten lifespan. Do you have any guidance on what voltage overclocking is considered safe for this configuration? I want to prevent damaging the motherboard or CPU for several years.
