As previously stated, upgrade options are limited to replacing the HDD with an SSD for faster program loading, which will not improve graphics performance in games. Yes, the AIO screen can be used as a display via HDMI connection. It will consume electricity due to the entire AIO unit being powered on.

Does it consume excessive electricity? Can it not be used directly as a standard monitor without connecting additional peripherals to the all-in-one unit?

This All In One can function as a regular monitor. Most do not possess the necessary circuitry.
