Based on what was mentioned earlier, I’d likely target about 8GB. If you’re only browsing and don’t have many extensions, 4GB should suffice.

You can manage with 4GB without running into memory problems. My old 6510b core 2 has that amount, and I haven’t hit any issues using Firefox Nightly.

For online surfing you require about 2GB of memory (or even 1GB plus a 32-bit processor). You might need more depending on the situation. For users handling 8GB or higher— it's not about recommendations, just checking how much RAM is necessary for browsing. People once ran smoothly on 32-bit XP with many tabs open; today with fewer tabs, 2GB works well for modern browsers.
