You're facing a common dilemma when managing multiple demanding software applications. With limited RAM, keeping too many programs open can strain your system. It's wise to assess whether the performance benefits justify the extra memory usage. If you notice consistent slowdowns or crashes, upgrading might be worthwhile. Otherwise, optimizing your workflow—like closing unused apps or using lighter alternatives—could suffice.

My desktop has 32GB, while my server holds 128GB. It really comes down to whether the programs I run actually need it. If your tasks reach their limit at around 12GB, adding more than that won’t make much difference when you go up to 64GB or more.

16GB available now, 32GB coming soon (desktop PC). Previously, 4GB was standard, then Windows shifted to 8GB as default. Now 16GB feels more typical. Would you like 16GB? No, is a larger size better? Yes.

32GB worked just as well as 16GB...the difference is minimal and keeps getting smaller.

The benchmark for modern high-end gaming desktops is around 32GB. For a workstation setup, this is the recommended baseline.

I don’t know, I also have 16GB but it seems my system runs smoothly even with many apps open. With 65 tabs, Blender, Spotify, and background tasks, performance stays stable without any lag.

16GB works fine for most games, though modded titles often underestimate it. Stick with 16 unless you have a specific need. 32 is mainly for serious enthusiasts who require extra capacity.

Reflects on the past when your PC came with just 1MB of RAM and needed a jump to 4MB or more to run Doom. The issue wasn't just limited to low memory—it was due to a fire destroying resin factories, major drug dealers trading RAM chips as currency, and thieves stealing them. This chaos drove up prices dramatically.
