What advice do you have for upgrading my PC?
Huh ok I will definitely wait for the graphic cards as the 4060 seems way to expensive for 8gb of vram… I’ll see what this Black Friday holds for whether I should platform upgrade or just cpu!!! Thanks so much for your help!!! Do you think I should AIO liquid cool or air? I am unaware of which is currently better at this time lol.
Absolutely ready for Black Friday now, thanks! The article was cool and I was surprised by how similar the performance was. I’m curious about how it would look with a regular GPU instead of a 4090… Which cooler do you think is better? I don’t really know much about them. The only other cooler I remember is a 212, which I’ve seen around before. I’m excited for 50! Thanks!
It seems you're questioning the choice of AMD over Nvidia, noting their better value despite higher prices.
Noctua D15s is better by a couple degrees but cost more. I've always had Noctuas, build quality is always top notch. I only know of Deep Cool from discussions, haven't used myself.
Reinstalling Windows avoids driver and registry conflicts. For best performance always reinstall.
7800x3D can cool properly on air. Avoid aio if you don't want pump failures which will eventually happen, 2~3 yrs maybe 5 if lucky. Besides pump failure, there's possible leaks, air bubbles, corrosion. Meh. Air all the way if you get a good cooler.
AMD is really great, I’d definitely think about it! I should look into their GPU options a bit more since I’m not familiar with their lineup. Also, are there any ongoing driver problems? That was the main reason I chose Nvidia for my build. What would be considered similar to the 4070 or 4080?
Yeah, I’ve put a Noctua in someone else’s computer—it looked great; the build quality was top-notch, though it really hurt my hands a lot. The case was almost too small for the huge cooler, haha!!!
I don’t mind dealing with that unless I’m working on a custom loop cooling setup, which sounds like a good project instead of a hassle.
Thanks for all the tips! If I upgrade to a new platform, I’ll definitely reinstall Windows. I might still choose Noctua, but maybe repaint it because the brown color is really bold! Would that change the temperatures?
Noctua includes Chromax Black in its color range, significantly superior to brown 👍
AMD hasn't faced significant driver problems for a long time... occasionally a particular driver clashes with a certain GPU, but such cases are rare and resolved swiftly. It's not as if Nvidia has never encountered driver issues, but AMD generally takes longer to refine their drivers, which means when comparing GPUs it's wise to always look at the most recent comparisons.
