Certain games can make the most of the 5700x. Still, the additional cores will assist with background window work, which helps reduce lag during gameplay. I wouldn't suggest a 6c chip in 2025 unless your budget allowed it.

When selecting the final CPU for that socket, 5700X or 5700X3D are the top options.

For extended use and as a gaming setup, the 5700x3d would be ideal if your system can handle it, then consider enhancing the graphics card.

I support the CPU recommendations if you plan to use this system for an extended period, but I’d want to investigate why the frame rate is low first.
It might be the GPU—my concern is that your CPU might not be fast enough to handle that 1660 smoothly.
If that’s the case, swapping in a new GPU would be a better starting point, but you should also check the PSU since it’s over five years old and newer GPUs consume more power.
In any event, try to monitor the GPU and CPU usage in the games you play to identify the source of the low FPS and replace the faulty component first.

Zen 1 faced latency problems, but its key advantage was being the first budget-friendly 8-core processor. Switching to Zen 3 still appears worthwhile.

If this setup continues for a while and we get a stronger GPU, I’m fully on board. If it’s only a temporary solution to boost FPS before a major upgrade in a couple of years, then it won’t make much difference.
