Uncertain about whether it was a franchise, but I cherish those Onimusha Warlords games on Xbox.

It's a difficult decision. The two Super Mario Galaxy titles are arguably the top platformers ever created. Nothing else comes even close. Yet if I had to name "Mario," I'd also mention New SMB and the older NES, SNES, and N64 games—though they're impressive, they weren't truly the best. There are also classics like Megaman and modern gems such as Shovel Knight and Super Meat Boy. In short, whatever platforms you own, grab Shovel Knight now if you haven't done so yet. But what counts as a franchise? Probably Donkey Kong Country with Land and its newer entries. They consistently deliver solid platforming, great music, impressive visuals, and excellent controls.
