I'm trying OblyTile now. It's making my metro look really cool ;P I'm going to use it properly today.
You can save steam games on your home screen using the Pin Steam app, which costs $1.50 in the Windows Store. I own it myself and it functions well. By default it fetches the game image from Steam, but you can upload your own pictures. You can also include icons for shortcuts in Steam. For non-steam titles, simply create a shortcut in Steam, then use the app to place it as a tile with a custom image.
