What a bad MOBO?
System details: Ryzen 5900x with Asus Prime x570-pro (non Wi-Fi), Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800XT, 16GB RAM at 3600MHz DDR4. Corsair vengeance 2 in M.2 slots plus a 500Gb SSD. Network card labeled as Amazon "ubit wifi card 5400mbps" running Intel AX210. Problem: LAN and Wi-Fi speeds are extremely slow—desktop connections range from 800 to 20 Mbps, while Wi-Fi drops to just 200-500 Mbps once or twice. Nearby devices also experience similar slowdowns. I've reinstalled BIOS, rolled back several updates, cleaned temp files, but nothing improves the performance. I'm considering a USB Wi-Fi adapter, though I need to purchase one. If that fails, could my motherboard be faulty? I recently moved and haven’t encountered this issue before with my old setup. Any advice would be appreciated. I purchased this system in August 2020 and have used it through multiple GPU, CPU, and RAM upgrades. Downloading games is slow even at full speed, and the 1200 Mbps internet plan feels inadequate.
Have you explored updated or previous versions of your LAN NIC driver?
Yep, that's the earlier version. I tried the new one and the one before it, but nothing changed. I turned it off and back on through Device Manager too. Since I haven't used the LAN in a year, I'm not sure when it began behaving oddly, though it worked fine around early 2022.
It appears to be a Realtek NIC. You can download it directly from the MOBO site. If you have issues, a corrupted driver might be the cause.
I collected all my drivers for the MOBO there. I refreshed the LAN drivers, went back to the old BIOS, updated the BIOS, then changed LAN again and reverted once more—still nothing happened. I’m staying up late planning to test a USB network card instead. Apart from that, I’m not sure what else could be wrong except the motherboard itself. It’s frustrating it’s only three years old and still considered high-end.
New window installations fixed the LAN issue. Probably a program inside them was the cause. Now speeds exceed 1Gbps through the network. Appreciate it!
