WHAH WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THESE ERROR MESSAGES?
Over the last few months I've experienced repeated WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSODs that appear unpredictably.
Their frequency has risen significantly, often exceeding ten per day.
During each startup I encounter one of these errors:
WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
BIOS loading screen
Windows advanced recovery
I've tried the following steps to fix the issue:
- Verify system temperatures remain normal
- Install the latest Windows updates
- Confirm the power supply is connected directly to the wall, not an extension cord
- Ensure memory isn't overclocked (specified at 2133MHz)
- Update graphics card drivers to the newest version
- Ensure all drivers are current
- Run Windows Memory Diagnostic
- Restore BIOS to factory settings
- Execute chkdsk /r
- Perform an error check on the hard drive via Properties > local disc (C
> tools > Error checking > scan drive)
- BIOS has been updated multiple times (F51 → F52, F52 → F60, etc.)
- BIOS now at version F64
I've also performed:
- Windows Blue Screen Troubleshooter
- System File Checkers (fc /scannow)
- DISM tool to restore BIOS
- Offline scan using Windows Defender
- Verified XMP settings in BIOS are disabled
- Checked Fabric Clock frequency in BIOS (half memory speed)
- Ran Disk Clean-up
- Confirmed SSD firmware is current
- Reviewed S.M.A.R.T. status of SSD
- Executed Device Self-Test in Crucial Storage Executive for SSD
Despite these efforts, I still face persistent problems:
- Unable to locate the BIOS XMP setting
- Could not verify FCLK frequency in BIOS
- Multiple attempts to reset Windows via advanced tools failed
- Full scans with Malwarebytes and Windows Defender also stopped mid-process
My hardware details are as follows:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H-CF
- Storage: Crucial P1 1TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD
- Graphics card: MSI Radeon RX 580 8 GB Armor OC
- Power supply: Corsair TX550M
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4-RAM 3600 MHz (2x16GB)
- Operating System: Windows 10
For reference, a recent dump from WinDbg is available here:

If no one has additional suggestions, my next actions are:
1. Run MemTest86 to test memory
2. Disassemble CPU, remove thermal paste, and reset
3. Consider replacing the CPU
4. Replace the hard drive
5. Upgrade to a new motherboard
The BSOD references storport.sys linked to your storage devices, which suggests checking an SSD even though it passes SMART checks. It might indicate a hardware issue, as the 4th drive is often the culprit. The BIOS screen could also hint at the problem. To verify: follow option one on the provided link and proceed with the steps below.
Thanks for the ideas.
I plan to get a new drive soon and replace it.
Actually, I've already turned on minidumps during BSOD, even though the settings look right—it didn't produce any. I checked a bit and found some issues that stop them from forming. After about an hour I stopped trying to fix it.
Now it seems I can't boot normally at all. Every attempt leads to one of these errors:
WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
BIOS loading screen
Windows advanced recovery
I have no way to make changes outside the BIOS or anything in Windows advanced recovery.
that might be another indication that it's the drive, since it's quite challenging to draft an error report for the device that triggered it. I've experienced this before.
advanced recovery is typically initiated after every third failed startup, which suggests certain components of Windows function properly if only advanced startup occurs.
