Welcome to the site! I have a brief question (hope it's the right forum).
Recently my laptop has been losing CPU speed every time I launch a game while connected to a charger. It works fine when the charger is removed. I'm using Windows 11 with a custom Razer plan that's set up for gaming. The speed drops to around 0.77GHz, and even after switching to a new charger, the problem persists. I’m unsure what’s causing this issue. I don’t have performance options enabled, so high performance isn’t an option. Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated.
The troubleshooting forum seems more appropriate for this issue.
This problem appeared on my old HP gaming laptop whenever it was plugged in, not just during gameplay. The fix involved installing a program named Throttlestop and turning off BD_PROCHOT, which restored its normal speed.
It seems your CPU isn't compatible with the system. That's confusing!
Oh, didn't realize Razer made laptops with AMD CPUs, at least I'm assuming a Razer laptop by the fact you're using their power plan. Yeah, Throttlestop is an Intel exclusive program and won't work for your CPU. No idea if there's an AMD equivalent. I'd be contacting the manufacturer about getting a replacement. It's new enough that it should still be under warranty, and this is something that should be covered under warranty, or they can at least send you the proper driver to fix it if it's a known issue.
After reviewing it, the problem was resolved by installing HP updates. Keep checking your support site for driver and other important updates.
