Hello, I'm seeking methods to modify or spoof the serial number, specifically the one displayed by the command `wmic diskdrive get serialnumber`. Please find guidance on how to achieve this safely, whether through software tools or instructions for educational use. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

i see no reason why this would be necessary... even for educational purposes. (because why spoof a s/n if not for malice) and i suppose there's two ways: - hijack the system that fetches the s/n to report something else. - make a custom driver that instead of reading the s/n from hardware reports a static value.

the only occasion i ever worked with a custom driver was to have windows xp list a compactflash card as internal storage, using a script i discovered online. this kind of task is common for retro systems. without knowing how intricate it is, i could confidently say you should be comfortable with x86 assembly and the layout of windows drivers.

You're basically asking us how to make a fake ID... but for education purposes... I'm not buying it. The only reason I have ever heard of someone wanting to fake a serial number on hardware is to bypass a an entry ban (i.e. you got caught doing something online and now you are banned from the service).

You're mistaken about the process. Avoiding restrictions usually involves modifying the standard hardware with open-source tools that are widely available. This allows anyone to bypass limits easily. For educational reasons, understanding this method is possible, but it’s important to note there are no ethical or legal implications. No further discussion needed.

This statement has no specific meaning for me; I just want to understand what it means.
