weird problem with my internet
Hello everyone, I recently installed a 1GB internet connection but after the technician set up the modem, I tested the speed and got around 950MBPS. That seems fine at first, but when I tried again later, it dropped to about 3MBPS each time. In the photos you can see the setup I used to connect my PC. The modem link is here: https://www.go2mhz.com/SpecSheet_mhz.asp...rSolID=828 and the router is at: https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/gp/product/B0...UTF8&psc=1. My motherboard is listed at: https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/LGA-1150-proc...463&sr=8-7. I contacted my ISP and they did their standard troubleshooting steps, everything looked good from their side. It might be related to my LAN port failing after the initial speed. If anyone has advice, please let me know and thank you for your help! Sorry if my English isn’t clear—I’m French and trying my best. 😊
Have you attempted to use another machine? Did you switch to a different operating system? The problem might stem from Windows or your device. If the other system behaves the same, the issue likely lies with the network.
You should verify the performance by running a speed test. Were you accessing content from a specific domain? Are the issues present whether the router is included or not?
I hadn’t considered testing another operating system, and I was aiming to use my fairly old portable device. Thanks!
Trying a different OS may help tell us if it's just an issue with your Windows install but not your hardware. Portable as in laptop? If you mean wireless you may have trouble reaching Gigabit speeds at all. Though you should see speeds much higher than 3. Did you only do speed tests or did you try downloading some files? It's possible it's just an error with speedtest.
Sorry, I meant a laptop:3 with a wired link. Yes, I only checked using Speedtest.
Is QoS active on your router? If yes, consider disabling it. It may behave unexpectedly. Usually, I recommend keeping it off unless you have a particular reason, which is unlikely with a gigabit connection.
