I have a speaker and headphones. Usually, I switch to headphones while gaming for clearer sound and to headphones when watching videos for better audio quality. It's been about a month since I started using headphones, but today I just changed it. I could hear the video clearly, but the game was muffled so I turned it up to maximum. Then I realized the game was coming through my speakers while the video went through my headphones. It’s reassuring to know my computer can handle this setup so I can play games while my girlfriend watches Hulu. My question is, how can I set the game and Chrome to use my headphones instead of speakers? When I switch devices, I want the game to go through headphones and Chrome, but when I change back, it should switch to speakers and headphones. I didn’t make any major changes—just went to Playback Devices and selected headphones, then pressed Set Default. The game doesn’t seem to have an option for audio output settings in Win10.

Could your settings differ between the default device and communication device? That might explain the issue.

You would check the relevant area or source where it is typically found.

In the window displayed above, right-click on anything to select it. If they are configured individually, you'll notice a green checkmark next to one item and a green phone icon on another. -PS moved to the Windows subforum.

the only confirmation is a green checkmark next to headphones, while the speaker shows nothing checked. also, no sound apps or mixers are installed on my PC.

The image makes it hard to identify the issue since additional devices appear when you scroll. It seems likely this is the main concern, though there may be other possibilities. I don’t know of another method to direct specific app results to individual hardware outputs.

most items you can't see are outdated gadgets I no longer own, so they all indicate they're disconnected. But it seems only from Speakers and headphones—uncertain how enabling another device triggers it. My Speakers aren't set up for any other options.
