Bit of an Update . . . I was changing things up in my room and just by a fluke, I noticed the internet go out but at the same time, the space heater turned on (it was set to turn on if it got cold enough in the room and it shuts off when it reaches the set temp). I thought, 'naw...there is no way...seriously.' So, curious me, I turned the heater off, waited for it to cool down, it shuts itself off, and seconds later...the internet was back on! Then that resulted in me testing it, while at the same time making family members mad...and sure enough the second the space heater turned on, the internet goes out. Though sadly, even after I switched from a remote controlled space heater fan, to a heated oil one, that the internet still goes out every once in a while. Did a bit of research online and it says, 'if the heater is 5feet away, you shouldn't have any more problems'. But the remote controlled heaters are on the other side of the wall almost 20 feet away. Could that seriously still be effecting the internet? Oh! And no, these heaters are only remote controlled, not fancy wi-fi ones or have separate app. Just your run-of-the-mill heaters/fan combo that you can control with a tiny remote to turn it up or down, from fan to heater, and to turn it on or off. The heated oil heater is just a small radiant heater. Nothing fancy either, just a dial on the face of the heater to turn it up or down, two on/off switches to have it low heat or both running, and that's about it. At this rate, I'm almost tempted to wrap the modem in tinfoil to stop any and all interference, but I'm unsure how that effect the wi-fi as mom's computer is wi-fi only with no port for a cord.

DSL is quite prone to electrical noise, particularly if your phone wiring is near them or of low quality. I’d inspect the phone connections and check for any extra cords. Ideally, place the modem near where the main line enters the house. It seems odd they moved you from Ethernet to DSL initially—though it did bring you closer to a business-grade connection, it would have been more affordable and dependable if they’d offered that instead.

The modem is located in my room. It’s the only space they could drill through since our building mainly uses concrete bricks. Regarding the 'downgrade,' unfortunately, it isn’t on their side. It was the sole internet option we had available, costing $39.95 each month. I don’t recall the speed they claim they should offer, but there was a cheaper plan at $19.99 that only provided data, not enough for streaming or video. There’s another version, but it’s nearly $60 a month and exceeds our budget. They’re planning to switch to fiber by the end of the year, yet we’re hesitant because they didn’t clarify whether this upgrade would add extra costs. If it does...well, it seems we might lose internet access altogether, making all this pointless, haha!

If they’re very close, you shouldn’t just visit the office to discuss it face-to-face. Make sure everyone is fully clear on how it affects your agreement.
