Has anyone experienced trouble with Windows failing to reach the update service? When attempting updates, it displays "We couldn’t connect to the update service." While manual downloads work, I’m using a fresh PC build with a Windows 10 Pro installation (version 1809, build 17763.253). I’ve tried all the solutions mentioned in those articles, but according to Microsoft support, the only option left is using the media creation tool during an in-place upgrade. So far, only five hotfixes have been applied: KB4462930, KB4470788, KB4480056, KB4480979, and KB4480116.

Windows Uparte relies on several services such as BITS, Windows Defender Firewall, Windows Update and possibly others. Disabling any of these can cause update issues. Usually Windows resolves the problem itself, but using third-party tools might interfere with its automatic fixes.

You can test the new assistant I've encountered on some family computers. The easiest solution has been using the Windows 10 update assistant at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software.../windows10. If that doesn't work, you can also try searching for "Windows 10 update assistant" and it will guide you through updating your system while preserving your files.
