i have a canoscan 4200f scanner linked to a windows xp dell inspiron laptop. the setup is used by family members for scanning, and it has functioned well for years. recently, while scanning yesterday, the dialog menus remained in english. when i pressed the scan button, a progress window appeared displaying changes like "adjusting lamp" now shown in french. anyone know what might have caused this issue? any suggestions would be helpful.

What scanning software are you employing? I observed a mention of Scan Gear – it's unclear whether this applies to your device.
in xp scangear cs is a driver. i cannot locate a way to revert the language back to english. after uninstalling the driver and the canoscan toolbox, which manages scanning, the program still displays in french. i can make the scangear screen appear by checking controls from the driver in the toolbox, but there are no preferences available and everything remains in french. it might be that the french is coming from the scanner itself?

the menu route map page you sent is for a canon d530. i have examined all the menu options closely, including when scangear cs appears even though it is in french. however, there are no preferences that can be set. it seems we can still use it despite the french language. but i am confused about why the scanner switched to french. perhaps a scanner buttons sequence was accidentally activated?

It seems a scanner button mix might have switched the language. I hope relevant guidance exists somewhere.
In a last attempt: Reach out to Canon directly and inquire about changing the scanner's language. Provide all scanner specifics through any labels or documentation.

Given the OS is XP and the host machine is a Dell, Canon probably won’t take responsibility and might deflect to others.

I talked to Canon, they said they wouldn’t provide any help. I located parameters in the advanced mode of Scangear CS in French, but there’s no language selection option under preferences. May I attach pictures of the Scangear option screens on this thread? Also, do you know if there’s third-party software that can connect with the scanner?
