I'm not sure if this fits the right area, but my setup includes an Intel core I5 6500, a GTX 1050 Ti, and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM. How long will it be before I need to upgrade my CPU, GPU, or RAM? I aim for smooth 1080p at 60 frames per second, preferably above medium settings. I moved from Xbox One to a PC because I thought everything would work, but it didn't turn out that way (like Forza Horizon 3). Why?

Forza Horizon 3 suggests a GTX 1060 or Rx 480 for 1080p. Your 1050 likely won’t handle it well unless the game is optimized. The 6500 will keep you going for a while, though 8GB RAM is still sufficient for most titles. Boosting RAM would cost around $60 and take about 5 minutes. The graphics card seems to be the main bottleneck in your setup.

Can you imagine staying on med-high with high settings at 1080p and 60fps for a while?

The installation goes well, almost identical to my setup and I'm satisfied. A more powerful GPU would be nice but isn't essential. 8GB of RAM should suffice for some time.

Forza Horizon 3 faced some challenges as a PC release, though it has improved since then. It remains quite tough to run. Have you played Gears of War 4? That version is a much better port.

The CPU and RAM are working well, but your GPU might benefit from an upgrade. Typically, it’s the GPU that limits performance. The duration of the upgrade depends on the specific GPU model you choose.

Uncertain, but a budget upgrade similar to the 1060 would significantly boost performance
