WD M.2 device fails to connect to your computer.
OS - Windows 10 x64 i5 7500 GTX 1050 Ti AsRock B250M HDV 400 W PSU SSD Upon installing my M.2 SSD into my PC, I noticed some issues. My system detects the SSD in certain ways but not all. In Computer Management > Device Manager > Disk Drives, it appears listed, yet when checking Files and available drives it’s missing. On the boot screen in my BIOS, I see the SSD but can’t select it as a boot drive. Attempting to access Storage Management via Device Management doesn’t work; the page remains blank with a status bar saying "Connecting to Virtual Disk Service" before an error appears after a long wait. I’m struggling to manage the drive from there. If anyone has advice on troubleshooting Storage Management, I’d really appreciate it. I’d like to use the SSD as a boot drive but can’t get it to recognize properly. Have I tried everything and am getting frustrated? Could Intel Rapid Storage be the cause?
Maybe the issue lies with the GPT partition setup. It's interesting that a B250 chipset can handle M.2—could it be SATA or NVMe/PCIe3? Also, some older Intel models can't boot from PCIe, only SATA, which might explain why this was a problem earlier. Edited July 20, 2022 by An0maly_76 Updated with more details
It's NVMe, and I think it supports NVMe booting, though I'm not entirely sure. I wouldn't expect it to differ significantly.
M.2 SATA uses a single slot with a B+M key, whereas PCIe/NVME require a two-slot setup. They cannot be swapped. The one-slot version needs an M.2 to SATA adapter and cable, and won't fit elsewhere. The two-slot version is for PCIe but depends on your CPU, chipset, and motherboard support.
