The PC case was open and several water drops fell from the ceiling fan. Some droplets likely landed on the 1070. The computer was running. Did the GPU display any issues beyond not functioning? For instance, might it show minor problems like slow performance or stuttering? Or could it fail to power on at all due to water damage?

When everything runs smoothly and there are no issues, it's likely fine. If the GPU gets damaged, you might face crashes, severe slowdowns, or system instability.

It wouldn’t cause noticeable stuttering, right? You’re suggesting the harm isn’t a clear black or white, but I’m not sure how much of it there is.

If water is present on a PCB and current flows through it—especially near traces—it can damage the GPU permanently. If the water isn’t touching anything, it may evaporate over time, but this is not safe. Remove the component from use, let it air dry completely for 24 hours, and ensure no power runs through it until confirmed dry.

As mentioned earlier, water on the PCB could damage your GPU. Follow the advice given and let it dry for at least a day and a half.

There’s no middle ground—results are clear-cut. It’s all or nothing.

Yes, that makes sense.

Black and white, resembling a minor water problem on the PCB... it can turn into a major issue or stay resolved if a trace gets shorted. Think about it—if the fan header got damaged and fans failed, it might seem manageable to fix. But honestly, I’m not confident that’s the case (just the fan header getting damaged).

It functions or it doesn't. Looks like it should work. Was it allowed to dry first?
