I've installed many Windows 8 versions and still have questions. Creating a USB installer was challenging, which made me switch to a USB DVD drive. That was the main problem I faced.

I enjoyed playing Win 8 and especially liked version 8.1. I didn’t often use the start bar; usually I’d pin items to the taskbar and use the updated interface for less frequently used tasks (like 4) and searches.

Start from scratch with a clean OS installation, leaving all updates off and no additional software running. Rushed to apply the updates just to improve appearance.

You're referring to the absence of certain programs such as Start is Back. It seems like you're aware that updates addressed some issues, yet you didn't notice changes before. You mentioned having no problems initially.

I appreciate the appearance of Windows 8. However, I won't be updating anytime soon because Windows 10 is almost here...

Windows 10 isn't exactly a close match. It feels more like a forced blend of Windows 7 and Windows 8. I prefer Windows 8 for its performance. At least the interface is understandable. The update process and Start Menu links need improvement, but that would make it better.

By close I mean progressing over the next couple of years. I won’t be doing a complete reset if it means having to start all over again after just a year...

It seems tricky to set up with a mouse and keyboard alone. Once you're updated to version 8.1, additional updates resolve the issue smoothly.
