I was checking the forums and my Windows glass colors switched to a non-transparent theme. The only app running was Google Chrome. Task Manager showed everything normal, but it didn’t revert. I shut it down, and it returned to the transparent theme. After restarting, both my custom login screen background and the default window glass color came back. What happened?

It occurred to me when I switched tabs out of DayZ. Super Odd.

This occurs when your system runs low on available memory or page file space. Windows interprets Aero as the cause and switches to a different default theme. With very demanding applications this may trigger a warning message. Certain outdated resolution tools behave similarly, fixing themselves after you interact with the taskbar.

Usually you see a warning about the theme switch. It’s likely DWM (the program managing desktop windows and Aero) stopped working, or a Windows update started, which could be why your account was altered.

I understand your point, though he claims he didn’t receive the pop-up balloon alert (presuming you didn’t miss it), and his personalized login background has updated.

It's occurred even without being informed, and it also updates the theme permanently without reverting it.

You're using Windows 7, right? It's the regular weekly WEI check. The test runs your graphics card once a week to confirm it can handle Areo. At first, it really threw me off—my GPU usage spiked and my desktop settings changed without any reason. I assumed my card was broken, so I treated those moments like "my card going full retard." Eventually, it stopped bothering me.

It's rare to encounter a single memory leak issue. Back then, 4GB was quite a lot of storage! Things have definitely changed.
