Was die Hintergrundbilder verschwunden und Chrome abstürzen lassen?
I was using my PC normally until suddenly it began behaving erratically. The screen didn’t freeze, but it looked like the display went dark while I could still interact with the taskbar. It felt like a glitch, making it seem unusable. I had to force a restart. My suspicion was that the hard drive failed. After logging back in, my desktop background turned black, though all icons remained intact and I was able to use the PC normally—games loaded fine. I checked the crystal disk and thought it might be linked to the wallpaper on the HDD. The status came back as 100% All good.
I performed another reset just in case, but the background stayed black. I’ve had the same wallpaper for years since my first Windows 10 installation. After switching to a new one, everything seems normal. My OS is on an SSD, while other components are on a HDD. My instinct was the hard drive, but Windows reliability data indicated Chrome might have crashed instead.
Someone on Reddit mentioned Windows had set the background to black for an unknown reason. Anyone has any insight into what might have happened? This is really confusing.
I believe there is a function in Chrome to set an image from the web as your desktop background. It could be that, somehow Palpatine returned the crash triggered this function on nothing, resulting in Windows setting your background image to nothing. I have no idea why a Chrome crash would be related to resetting your desktop background, but it appears to be a thing Chrome crashes can do for whatever reason since it happened to both you and someone else on reddit 4 years ago.
Tell me about your computer's specifications. A GPU driver issue could be related.
