I've been using it for a long time. A notice about deprecation came up yesterday or the day before. Then, while updating inventory in Excel, it kept crashing. Restarting and installing a Windows update didn't help. I ran chkdsk but it still crashed. Another update this morning caused repeated crashes. Opening the file in Open Office worked fine. Did Microsoft intentionally make Office unstable??
Do you encounter an error notification during this process? If yes, please share the complete details here.
They hold text. I was handling brand and model details. In lines 127 to 129 it would cause an issue. It didn't crash when using OO. I created the file in Excel.
By lines, you mean "rows" correct? And certain cells in one of columns common to those rows crash.
How are those column formated: number, dates, text, etc...?
Are you able to copy and paste the contents or formulas of cells that do not cause crashes and cells that do crash?
Include other columns that may be related.
Likely some error: e.g., trying to add a numeric "1" to a text "2"
Sorry, the rows from 127 to 129, columns a through b, were not processed. After several failures and spending time on chkdsk and updates, I didn't try other options. They are not formatted; they contain text only, with no formulas. I was pasting into them, but there were many empty columns—essentially just 8 columns in use.
Are columns a-b displayed as text or numbers for each row? It's not uncommon for certain rows in a column to be set up incorrectly. Excel requires a specific format, and if it doesn't match expectations, the program may stop running.
Brand and model details might include various characters. Excel could interpret some entered data as unrecognized symbols or errors, leading to crashes. When such issues occur, simply closing the application often resolves them.
What method do you use for copying/pasting data? Where does the copied information come from?
Can you share examples of pasted content into those cells that reveal any personal details? Compare these with cells that don’t cause problems.
If available, provide a screenshot showing rows 120 to 140 and the contents in all eight columns.
Highlight the cells that trigger crashes versus those that don’t.
