Hey there, I’m trying to upgrade my system from a 5000X to a 011 Mini and am diving right in with both hands. I’m putting together a custom loop while I buy a 5800X3D for £313 on Amazon using the Pay in Five option. I picked up a Silverstone SFXL SX1000 during my shopping run, and when I tried connecting the 24 Pin, it was confusing. The PSU has a 20 Pin plus a separate 4 Pin connector at the PSU side, but the cable fits in there. I’ve been pushing it through a grommet and keeping it in place, but when I plug it into the 24 Pin on my motherboard, the locking tab ends up on the wrong side. That’s worrying. To fix it, I need to twist the cable a certain way, but I’m not sure if that’s correct or if the connector is flipped. Anyone know what to do? I don’t want to damage my board or CPU. Appreciate any advice!

This varies by board, which is typical. The plug is designed with a keying feature so it's unlikely you'd insert it incorrectly. Simply turn the cable until the locking tab faces the right way.

The images loaded in a different order because of how I took the photos. I captured things from the PSU side first, then showed that I hadn’t twisted them through the grommet. Also, the connector and locking tab were on the same side, so I’d need to twist the cable in for installation. Let me know if this clarifies things.

It seems off to introduce a twist. It’s the only advice you’re given—Don’t twist the cable.

The cable side with the 24-pin connector plus 4-pin connector is the one connected to the power supply. The additional 4 pins serve as voltage sensors for monitoring by the power supply. The side featuring a 20+4 pin connector connects to the motherboard. Previously, a 20-pin connector was used. Converting it to a 20+4 pin makes it backward compatible. Based on the photos, your installation seems correct. Edit: I just reviewed the post—adjusting orientation if needed is acceptable. It might be due to your power supply being behind the motherboard tray, which is uncommon. Edited January 21, 2023 by Spotty

It's fine to give a light adjustment for proper alignment, my friend. I've seen cases where cables end up in awkward positions without any problems.

It's interesting how the placement of the PSU affects the outcome. I hadn't considered it before.

You don’t have to twist the cable tightly at the end because there’s plenty of slack involved. It’s not a big problem. I have several other suggestions that could be more helpful right now.
