Was a 3600x worth it?
Hey! Your 3600 looks solid for your build, especially after moving up from the i5 4690k. Gaming is your main focus, so that’s great. The new Intel CPUs are coming soon, and you’re right to consider whether they’ll be worth it. Your current CPU is fine, but the upgrade might feel like a missed chance if the next generation is significantly better. As for the TDP, it shouldn’t be a dealbreaker unless your cooling setup is tight. What do you think overall?
Your 3600x will offer better value for $$$, and it might be worth just overclocking instead. You can also enhance performance with PBO. Check out this discussion: https://www.overclock.net/forum/13-amd-g...boost.html
I agree you took a smart choice. AMD offers incredible value for money with the Ryzen lineup. Combining it with fast RAM and a capable graphics card delivers outstanding performance.
If your purchase was $200 or under for the 3600x, then no. The closest match appears to be the i5-10600 at around $213k (about $235 MSRP), and the i5-10600KF at $237 (roughly $260). These chips offer performance similar to an i7-8700 and i7-8700k, with only minor differences in core speeds. Since a 3600x is comparable to an 8700k, you're getting a bit less power for a bit less cost. I don’t think you made an error in choosing the 3600x.
