Two friends recently experienced significant data loss because of software issues. One had a BSOD that caused most files to vanish, while the other fell into a bootloop, rendering the drive unusable and wiping all user paths. The recovery reports confirm everything was deleted. It looked odd since there was no hardware failure and the events happened very close together—wondered if it was connected.

The local account is damaged and the information isn't reachable. This isn't uncommon. A local profile is experiencing issues, and all related files have been removed? That's quite unusual.

Yes, it's gone now. The second version didn't include the user folders anymore.

Use a tool designed to recover lost data, which can display files that have been removed unless they've been completely erased

Attempted both methods, but no files could be accessed. The second machine was the only option to view the drive contents because Windows refused to read it, and all file paths disappeared.

If its an file system issue you could see the folders with tools like (mini partition or any other). Once my windows drive got in raw format but I could recover the files without formatting. Still I find it very weird if all the files inside the user profile got deleted, I dont think corruption or bsod would do that but rather drive failure or a windows bug itself.

Two distinct recovery methods failed to locate the folders on the second computer. Most files remained inaccessible, showing "filepath not found" errors and refusing to open after restoration, no matter how healthy the drives appeared. The data was essentially lost. Minipartition and CrystaldiskInfo confirmed both drives were functioning properly.
