I worked through several challenges with ethernet adapters on my high-end systems. On the Asrock board, I faced issues connecting to Ubuntu Server for AI hosting; the OS could detect the adapter but couldn’t establish a link, forcing me to search forums until someone suggested enabling SR-IOV. That change resolved the problem instantly. My MSI X870E model had both 10G and 5G ports, and I used it for my main PC. The 10G port worked well in Windows unless it handled heavy continuous transfers, which would degrade speed until it dropped entirely. Restarting helped temporarily, but the behavior stayed inconsistent. Driver updates didn’t help, so I switched to the 5G port instead. On the MSI board, SR-IOV provided the virtualization feature that fixed the connection issues. The 10G adapter performed normally for large uploads and downloads once the right settings were applied. This experience highlights how SR-IOV can significantly improve performance and reliability for high-speed connections.
