Wanting to turn your computer into a modded Minecraft game server, what gear do I need to upgrade?
Hello, so I just bought this small desktop from eBay because I wanted to play modded Minecraft and host it on a server. I don't like paying for a server, so I invested in a personal one instead, hoping it works better long term. I installed Ubuntu Server and AMP to host the Minecraft server. The PC is a Lenovo ThinkCentre M93 Tiny, and here are its specs from the eBay listing and a PDF that goes into great detail on those numbers. So I made an instance for the Minecraft server through AMP. However, my PC struggles to run the server. When I am not in the server, everything works fine. But when I enter the server, the CPU and memory usage go up until they reach 4-5 GB of RAM, which is almost all of the 6 GB allocated to me. While playing inside the server, it gives tick lag errors in the console. The Minecraft modpack I am playing is FTB University version 1.16, and I installed that through AMP's server configuration panel. I'm pretty naive about upgrades from old desktops because of power wattage limits set for them and the frustration of buying parts that don't fit or work well together. It's not like building your own PC; there are strict limits on these kinds of machines, so I was wondering if you have any recommendations for hosting Minecraft (or any games) on this specific desktop?
