So I got my samsung 850 evo 250GB SSD today, which means its time for a fresh install of windows, right now I could get a new license for windows 7 home premium 64-bit on newegg for $100 so I can upgrade to 10 for free when it is released, or I can continue using the "invalid" license that I've got right now until windows 10 is released and then get a new copy of windows 7 or something and upgrade to 10 from that. I'm not sure if the price for windows 7 will end up increasing or decreasing once 10 is released as I'm sure 7 will be harder to find, what are your opinions on this? should I get the new key now or wait?

You might try purchasing a $20 key from G2A to begin exploring the powerful Windows 8.1 experience.

I had a chance, but how reliable are those keys? What if the seller also sells the key to another person or uses it and it loses its validity? (Or does M$ make sure it stays valid, even though you won’t be able to use it later?)

Many accounts share tales of keys being taken away due to purchases made via Microsoft's Dreamspark initiative.

The keys from Dreamspark remain permanent, which raises the question of how they could understand this.

It's claimed that Microsoft verifies the keys and notices they're being used on devices with distinct names, custom hardware, or elsewhere. This appears suspicious, leading to their removal of the product.

He has a factory-issued key for both machines, and I’m not sure what the verification process is.

I have two companions and one of my own devices employing those keys, and they haven't been deactivated yet.

I don't believe anyone fully understands Microsoft's licensing process. My main thought about purchasing inexpensive keys on G2A is that some come from MSDN or TechNet and have set expiration dates. I wouldn't recommend buying these cheap keys, though you're free to spend what you want. You can take advantage of the Windows 7 trial for up to 90 days by extending it (up to two times), after which it may report licensing issues, but I’d still consider buying Windows 7 now. I hope Windows 10 arrives within a year so you can upgrade for free, though many sites are still offering "while stocks last" or similar for Windows 7 OEM keys, hinting that a direct upgrade to Windows 10 might be delayed.
