I assembled this system in 2021 and moved to a location with frequent power interruptions, around ten times per year. Because UPS systems are very costly in my country, some suggest using a reliable power strip with surge protection. That’s what I got from Clamper.
In late 2024, during Christmas, my GPU failed while playing Marvel Rivals. A few parts were replaced and it’s back to normal. However, I’m experiencing anxiety about this situation. I fear my PC could fail at any time, and I can detect burnt plastic smells whenever the memory hits.
I didn’t adjust clock speeds; I just use it for gaming and 1080p video editing.
What might have led to this? Was power instability the issue? If so, what steps should I take to avoid it again? Should I consider purchasing a large UPS just to be safe?
Thank you!!
there is limited you can achieve besides using a high-quality surge protector. once a power outage happens it provides sufficient time to cut off electricity from the outlet. if there are no switches on your wall, then a surge protector with individual controls becomes necessary.
Thank you for your answer.
I couldn't find these that you recommended available in my country.
When you say I will have time to turn off the power, do you mean, to just prevent damage from the surge after the PC power goes off, or does it give me a brief moment like a cheap UPS?
I got this surge protector. Bought after the incident:

Is this good enough? What should I look for? I saw some people (not sponsored) praising the quality on some local youtube channels.
Here's the translucent version, it seems cheap:

The sole choice available is a UPS. Surge protectors aren't effective against brownouts.
I understand what you're going through... It was a bit amusing when you mentioned needing to be quite frequent... Back then, power cuts were common, sometimes weekly or even twice a week. Electronics didn't last long.
You might need an UPS, though it can be costly. I remember installing one as a temporary fix, but my motherboard was eventually taken out.
Surge protector safeguards against sudden spikes in voltage, especially when power resumes after an outage. During outages, it provides sufficient time to safely disconnect electronic devices. For low power situations, power conditioning is another alternative. However, an UPS remains the best solution for preventing total power loss. I would recommend testing the sockets to ensure they maintain the correct voltage.
Thank you for your responses. You’ll need to consider purchasing a UPS, but which model is best? Should it be VA-rated and sinusoidal? I just want the most affordable option that will protect my important computer.
I don't have access to specific inventory details for UPS units in your country. Please check the official UPS website or contact your local distributor for accurate information.
