Are you considering a refurbished board or upgrading to a new platform with improved CPU, memory, and storage? What financial range are you planning for this change?

There is a chance another student has a AM3+ motherboard laying about. I have been given 3 now just from me asking people that have been upgrading their systems. Your current motherboard sounds like it is toast and if a chipset problem really no way to repair the motherboard.

Parents will cover the cost. You require it for school.

The outdated FX components aren't worth saving—just replace the motherboard, RAM, and CPU. Go with a Ryzen for better performance.
