AMD still can't afford to advertise their chips at slower speeds unless they extract maximum performance from them, allowing more options later. Soon maybe.
It would be great but really I just wish the costs for the current Zen 2 chips drop. That wasn’t the case with the 3200G, and if it had been, an APU would serve a very different role.
I need a really good system right now... running a 10-year-old laptop (first generation i7) is tough. The motherboard I have is a Gigabyte x570 Aorus Pro... no CPU installed yet. I can wait about a month... I've got the components ready for my setup... only the CPU is missing. @Jurrunio, as far as I understand, they're almost identical, just a base frequency of 3600X, which is over 3600 and I'm pretty skeptical about much of the overclocking advice online, especially not for AMD. I'm not interested in overclocking at all. @Dedayog, you know it's a bit silly with the naming... I was expecting a 3600X, but I'm just wondering if it's worth waiting and spending a few bucks if it makes a difference. @Letgomyleghoe, they just bumped up the base frequency so it can match the performance of a 10th generation Intel i5 single-core... that's all.
The initial choice was the 3600x... but now next-gen releases are arriving, which makes me a bit anxious because upcoming games will likely make full use of that many cores. An 8-core 16-thread console could quickly become outdated—possibly a 6-core 12-thread setup won’t last long. That’s really stressful, I’m going crazy!
I believe people are focusing too much on technical specs. Gaming at high resolutions like 6700K or 7700K is easy, but adding more cores doesn’t automatically mean games will run smoothly. It takes careful programming to handle multiple threads effectively.
Dedayog laughing it off, really thinking a lot about things. I usually plan big things—maybe June first or second week—buying around 3600 or 3700 units.
