I'm new here and unsure which forum to use.
I'm working on an HP Z230 SFF workstation, bought a W10 disc, installed the OS, and found a key sticker. The key doesn't work.
How can I retrieve the key from the disc?
Searching for solutions found many options, but downloading apps is being blocked by my security.
Could you please help?
Thanks

The main sticker is likely intended for another edition. For instance, Pro vs Home would be different. A genuine Win 10 copy should display a sticker with it.

When attempting to reinstall the operating system, ensure you select the precise same version (such as home or pro).

It seems the HP likely included its own operating system license, and you probably just needed to reinstall it.

The Z230 didn't come with an HDD at the time I got it. I'm unsure what operating system was installed when it was new. I discovered an HP W10 disc online for a few dollars, hoping it would work with HP software on an HP machine. All the information I've read suggests the key is on the disc. I just need a method to locate it without running into any issues. Thanks for checking my post.

Ah.
The 7 license no longer functions for starting a Win 10 or 11 setup. This issue has been ongoing for a few months. The best option is to buy a genuine Win 10 or 11 license. (Win 11, if your system supports it)
The license you bought is likely a mostly fraudulent product. The Win 10 version you received is probably an OEM, linked to the original hardware it came with.

To play 10 you must purchase a Win 10 license. The disc itself doesn<|pad|>, only the operating system comes with a free install, which you could have obtained from Microsoft. A genuine key or license costs around $100

I purchased the disc from ebay for $12.00. Since I didn't have any W10 software, I'm glad I already had other OS discs available, beginning with W95. Thanks!

The $12 price does not cover a valid Win 10 license.
The license is the sole expense you incur.
The installation can be obtained for free from MS.

That's the thing. I have had no luck trying to get W10 to download. Apparently i'm doing it wrong. No key came with the disc i got. I have seen several discs w/key for $30.00 or so and also flash drives w/ OS and key, which
i do not trust. Maybe i'm wrong. Frankly I don't agree with giving up so much for software&key. Micro/gates has enuff money already.
Thanks for the help
