Is there any information on how effectively VR functions through a USB-C to USB-3 hub when using a PC with limited USB ports? Should I consider purchasing a hub to link all my devices to the USB-C connection?

It'd probably be fine if the the hub is rated at USB 3.0 speeds, but you can always buy another USB 3.0 PCIe card and add more ports to the computer (assuming you have a PCIe slot open)

It's quite inconsistent overall. Several elements come into play, such as power usage, data transfer speed, and USB controllers. Solutions that suit others might not apply to you.
Power management becomes simpler with an active USB 3 hub, but if your motherboard and other components are involved, latency problems could arise when multiple devices share a single USB controller.
Keep in mind that USB-C doesn't guarantee a USB 3.1 controller on the board, which might still cause issues.
