Your processor is likely to slow things down, consider upgrading to 4770/K or 4790/K.
It works well for most titles using standard configurations. Avoid heavy use of advanced sampling options. My setup includes an i5-4690K with 16GB RAM and 980Ti, and an i5-7300HQ laptop with 8GB RAM and 1060 6GB. Your processor will run about 10-15% slower than the desktop but faster than the laptop. At default settings, VR performance is acceptable—around 1.1 to 1.2x Super Sampling depending on game intensity. Tested with Vive (original) Rift and Samsung WMR headsets. You may need to reduce settings in games like Elite Dangerous, DCS World, or Project Cars 2 since they demand more resources but still function.
it's possible even a high-end model like the gt 1030 can handle vr, just set the resolution to 20% in windows mixed reality and you might feel queasy—but it’s worth it for smooth 10fps on superhot. still, i think you should consider upgrading to at least 16gb ram and a ryan z 2600 for better performance.
