Creating VR games involves more than just a VR headset. You’ll need hardware like a high-performance PC or console, motion tracking devices, and sometimes specialized software. Understanding game development concepts such as 3D modeling, physics, and user interaction is essential. Familiarity with engines like Unity or Unreal Engine will help, along with coding skills in C# or C++. You’ll also need to learn about VR-specific challenges, optimization techniques, and testing for comfort and performance.
I don't want to create typical games, even if it would be useful—I prefer learning VR to save time since my free time is extremely limited right now. I already have a setup here just to verify there are no required development kits or extra hardware.
I don’t lack programming skills overall. I’m strong in Python, HTMl/CSS, and a bit of Ruby. What I need is specific help for VR development. I’ve worked with games in Python before, but I’m unsure that will translate well to VR, which requires more than just game dev knowledge—like 3D modeling. I found Unity mentioned as an option; it seems you don’t need deep game development experience, just learn the language. I’m not starting from zero and building my own engine, because that would take years and isn’t practical. I’m looking for tools like Unity or Unreal Engine to create VR games efficiently.
Start by installing Unity and Blender, then dive into the project. Expect a significant amount of effort. Begin with non-VR testing first—VR testing can be challenging and early versions will likely run on a standard display.
