Hello! For a new router, consider whether DD-WRT support adds flexibility or if using a VPN directly on your devices is simpler. Each approach has its pros and cons. Wishing you a productive year ahead!

You intend to use the VPN for specific purposes. You prefer a dedicated device rather than relying on your router. Your current setup with a Cisco ASA supports multiple connections, but managing it can become complex and costly. For everyday users, the benefits of a router-based VPN are limited, especially with insecure options like PPTP. It’s better to run OpenVPN on a personal computer or Raspberry Pi for stronger security.

You've tried using a VPN with your router and PIA. The guidance suggests focusing on devices that handle VPNs better due to stronger processing capabilities. Most setups face issues with email services, file sharing, and streaming platforms like Netflix. On the desktop, it often works smoothly, while routers tend to be more complex.

The VPN is mainly for protecting privacy, so connecting it to one of Nordvpn's servers would be ideal. I thought setting it up on a router would be simpler than installing the app on my devices. I assumed the device processor wouldn’t struggle with performance. Regarding issues with Onedrive and Outlook, my VPN worked fine once I disabled 'cyber sec' (which blocks malicious sites). I’m not sure if PIA offers a similar option, but I’d suggest turning it off.
