Hello, I collaborate with a firm that builds its own sales platform. Generally, for compliance and accountability, all financial data must remain consistent across locations—especially when dealing with local clients who require dedicated fiber connections. For smaller clients, the cost of using a VPN between terminals is prohibitive. We’re exploring a terminal-to-terminal VPN but it’s proving unstable and extremely slow (only about a tenth of normal internet speed). Are there any free or open-source self-hosted VPN solutions we could consider? Thanks ahead.

WireGuard offers flexibility in performance goals. For high-speed encryption, specialized hardware might be necessary. However, achieving around 50mbps over the VPN can be straightforward with a basic WireGuard configuration. If this is for a corporate environment, hiring network experts could be beneficial to ensure proper setup and security.

Take a look at it. For the larger ones they have consultants, but for the smaller or new ones it's not really feasible. If we manage to reach at least 50 out of the 300-500 and some of them can do it, that would be great. Thanks!

It’s simple to set up 50, but building the real system needs some expertise… I use pfSense with WireGuard for my site-to-site VPNs.
