The heat dissipation rating only indicates the cooling capacity, not the actual CPU temperature. For any cooler, the rate of heat removal depends on the temperature gap, meaning a hotter CPU generates more heat that needs to be dissipated. I don’t have the CPU temperatures during testing, so I can’t confirm how effectively it cools. AVX offset reduces the multiplier based on the number of offsets detected when using AVX. For instance, a 5.2GHz 9600k processor with an AVX offset of 6 will operate at 4.6GHz during AVX tasks. Lower clock speeds result in reduced workload and lower temperatures.

It seems power depends on both voltage and current, and boosting the clock could influence current. What bothers me is that even with small FFTs in prime95 without AVX, the clock speed sometimes drops to the AVX speed limit. This is the performance I’m experiencing, and I guess I should accept it.

I'm feeling the same here. I'm using my 9600k on an Asus Strix Z390e. Tried the AI overclocker to check performance, but it's pushing voltage too high—currently 1.45v at 5.2GHz, so I lowered it to 1.35v. For AVX, it's running at 4.7ghz and still hitting 95/96c during Intel Burn Test at full speed.

I still came across this thread while exploring all the new BIOS options for overclocking. Used to really enjoy it, but stopped with my Rampage 3 1366M/B around a few years back. Spent a lot of time searching for the BCLK setting in that configuration, only to find it missing now. Now I’m using AVX and NonAVX features instead. Running an Intel i5 9600k on a Corsair H150I, it reaches about 5.2ghz at 1.39v (52x100). Temperatures stay in the low 70s to high 60s during heavy use, averaging around 3-5°C difference between cores, with idle temps at 34°C and 72 free cooling units for room temperature. It’s housed in a Core P1 case (glass TT one) on an Asus Z-390-A motherboard. RAM is set to 3200MHz at 1.35v. I can push it up to 53x100, but that only works when it hits the 70s to mid-80s range—stick with 52x. Asus recommends DIP5 program says AVX stable up to 5.648ghz @ 1.415v, but I won’t worry about that. Just plug it in, apply some silver paste, and install a cooler. Now I just enable auto 5GHz in the BIOS and that’s it. Plan to upgrade to an i9 9900 next week or so, hoping for a better chip like the i5.
