I'm organizing several virtual machines this morning to refresh my skills while I search for a job. When reviewing their footprints, I noticed significant differences in VM size and disk usage, including a screenshot. My concern is whether VMWare automatically adjusts the disk size according to the available physical storage or simply grows the virtual disk as data is added. Specifically, if the actual disk capacity is 11 gigabytes, does VMWare expand it to 18 gigabytes to guarantee space for writing?

When setting up a VM, it often prompts about the desired size of the virtual hard disk. This likely refers to the leftover space after allocating it for the VM, though I can't verify that definitively.
