Vive ou Rift
Vive ou Rift
You're looking for a VR setup that fits well in a compact room and works comfortably while sitting. A Rift or Vive would both be suitable, but the Vive offers more flexibility with its adjustable headset and room-scale options, making it a better choice for your needs.
The Rift fits your scenario better, while the Vive was built for larger spaces rather than the Rift.
I believe the last Rift configuration I observed at a desk had the cameras positioned quite far away. In fact, if you're working from a desk, having just one camera usually suffices.
Great news to hear. I initially believed the touch controllers needed two cameras together with the rift. If I can manage with just one camera, it could help reduce costs.
The room measures 11ft by 11ft, with a bed, desk, and dresser creating roughly 4ft by 5ft of room. It fits my space well and lets me sit at the desk for seated activities. It's also more affordable than the vive, which was the main reason I decided to go with it.
personally, id recommend the vive, even though there is a lacking of games (that goes for all forms of VR), it still is the best value choice. but if im honest, wait a few years. or maybe 27, until something like this comes out... (i in fact actually do believe the way VR has to go is standalone headsets, rigging allowing you to sit down in vr and etcetera, as well as gloves instead of controllers. if the world were perfect, we would also have "bracelets" on our ankles for foot movement, and walking in place would work in vr, as an omni-directional treadmill is literally impossible... i think?) ((cameras would still be an option, but possibly if there was a band that wrapped around your head with possibly low-power lasers or something that would scan your room, so when you move and the distance between the wall and the headset increases/decreases, those lasers could "sense" that or pick that up and translate that to movement in the game... i think i might be on to something with this! ))
Here’s a revised version of your text:
This article discusses the Kat Walk mini treadmill, a compact and affordable VR option for in-game movement. It highlights its features and availability. A video overview is linked, along with references to its Reddit discussion and Kickstarter project page. Additional sources provide background on omnidirectional treadmills and related VR motion devices.
You appreciated the post and mentioned the omni has been available for a while.
