I came across some updated details about the Vive Cosmos.
The display measures 2880x1700 pixels, or 1440x1700 per eye.
LCD panels
Six cameras are used for inside-out tracking.
Price is under 900 USD.

The resolution bump is appealing, though I prefer it to match the price of the rift s.

There seems to be a company testing projectors. Instead of screens, they used a projector with a reflector aimed at a 'screen' to reduce the screen door effect. I don't recall any further specifics.

Extremely expensive and heavy, with a frustrating lack of improvement for little benefit. A curved OLED screen would be 100,000 times better and much simpler.

Ellipsoidal yes, spherical isn't certain but could vary with the diameter.
