Hey there, I just assembled a PC for my brother and, although he’ll likely stick with the Intel integrated 4600 graphics in the near term, I wanted to try an AMD card that had some trouble in my setup. I’m currently getting drivers from both the graphics manufacturer and his motherboard, which left me a bit puzzled about certain video driver details. I plan to install the Intel VGA driver from Gigabyte for his board since he’ll mainly use integrated graphics at the moment, plus the Catalyst Driver from AMD’s site. The “AMD VGA driver” listed on Gigabyte seems confusing—I’m not sure if it’s necessary. I thought the Catalyst Driver would handle the AMD video graphics array, but after installing the card and running into issues, I realized I might need that extra driver. When I first put in the card, I just downloaded both graphics drivers without thinking about overlap, this time just to clarify. I assume the Gigabyte “AMD VGA driver” is tailored for his specific hardware, which makes sense, except when I encountered problems and ended up using an older AMD card without reinstalling drivers—I wondered if the Gigabyte version was required then too. Any advice or confirmation would be super helpful! The system runs Windows 8.1 64-bit with the mentioned motherboard drivers.

Use just the Catalyst driver. Avoid board manufacturer drivers—they tend to be outdated.
