VirtualBox Performance Issues
VirtualBox Performance Issues
Keyboard requirements: CPU model i7-9700k, 32GB RAM (four 8GB units), clock speed 3600Mhz. Operating system: Windows 10 Home. Storage: 500GB WD M.2 NVMe drive for guest OS, 240GB Samsung SATA SSD for files. File server specs: CPU Ryzen 5 3500, 8GB RAM (one 8GB), clock 3200Mhz. Host OS: Windows 11 Home. I’ve experimented with various operating systems—Proxmox, TrueNAS Core, Ubuntu Server, etc.—to expand my skills and possibly switch to a more suitable platform for my needs. I’ve assembled and maintained several machines, showing solid hardware knowledge, though I’m still new to terminal management, VM configurations, troubleshooting, and network setup. Currently, I rely on VirtualBox to host virtual machines; it’s performed reliably on my main PC for months. Recently, a minor oversight during a guest OS adjustment led me to delete the VM and start over with Windows Server 2019. This time, despite spending hours, I couldn’t locate the installation interface, resulting in slow loading and a frustrating experience. I attempted to boot with adjusted settings but still faced long waits and no progress. My file server runs smoothly on Windows 10 with limited resources, while the VM struggles with even modest configurations. I’m trying to keep my original settings for the VM to maintain consistency, but it’s proving difficult. I’ve removed all unnecessary processes, re-downloaded the ISO, yet nothing changes. The host OS remains unaffected, but the VM’s CPU utilization fluctuates wildly—spiking to 87% and dropping to near zero. Other operating systems I’ve tried are stable, but Windows feels more familiar. I’m eager to resolve this so I can continue learning effectively. If you have any insights or recommendations, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!
I know what you mean, but it was actually pretty clever of you to figure it out yourself. Even though you were using Home edition, you managed to install Hyper-V without any issues. Once you realized you didn’t need it anymore, you decided to remove it completely instead of just turning it off. That worked perfectly! Thanks for your patience.
