Moore's law clearly in effect. Even though I'm young, I recall when a solid gaming PC in high school had at least 8 gigabytes of RAM now. Today 16 is pushing limits with all the programs you might run, and 32 is becoming the new benchmark for quality rather than just extra features. Back then it was still considered too much for most, but for power users or multitaskers it's a big plus—no more worrying about closing memory-heavy apps just to play a game.
