Videos freezing when game is in focus
I don’t understand the cause, but generally there are many games I’d play with a video on my second screen. This has been a normal experience for years. About a month ago it started stuttering when I focused on a game, making the video on my second monitor unwatchable. Have others noticed this too? Do you know of a solution? Looking at Task Manager shows nothing near maximum usage. If I close the game, the video works just fine, even though the game stays active on the main screen. It seems some window settings or NVIDIA configurations might have been enabled by chance, but I can’t locate anything. Anyone have suggestions? I haven’t found much on the web except from people who’ve upgraded their PC. Please share your specs if you want.
I optimized everything for peak performance on Windows. Tested NVIDIA Control Panel and GeForce Experience, disabled game mode and NVIDIA overlay—no problems. Works across all DX12 titles (Vulcan/DX11 run smoothly). Functions with video services like YouTube, Netflix, Plex, and VLC. My setup includes: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, Gigabyte X670 AORUS ELITE AM5, Gigabyte Gaming OC 3080, Corsair Vengeance RAM, NVMe SSD, 1200W Aurum Pro Gold PSU, Lian Li Meshcool II case, and Windows 11 Professional.
Turning off hardware acceleration in the browser (both Edge and Chrome) resolved YouTube and Netflix issues, making it a solid beginning. Still, Plex and VLC continue to experience stuttering even after adjusting their settings to disable hardware acceleration.
